Real Madrid filed a complaint with Spanish state prosecutors on Monday against hate chants aimed at Vinícius Júnior. They also reported the match referee from their game at Osasuna to the Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee for not noting “Die, Vinícius” chants in his report.

The club criticized referee Juan Martínez Munuera’s report as “negligent,” saying, “The official omitted, in voluntary and deliberate fashion, the insults and humiliating chants directed towards our player on a repeated basis, despite his attention being drawn to them continually by our players as they were happening.”

Last week, Real Madrid requested an investigation into racist chants against Vinícius outside Atletico Madrid and Barcelona stadiums before Champions League matches. They urged prosecutors to identify and prosecute the abusers.

In a statement, Real Madrid condemned the racism and violence against Vinícius, demanding action to eradicate such behavior. Vinícius retweeted a video showing Atletico fans chanting racist slurs before their match against Inter Milan.

Reports also emerged of Barcelona fans chanting against Vinícius before their match against Napoli. Vinícius has been a frequent target of racist abuse during away games in Spain for the last two seasons.

The Spanish league reported some abuse incidents against Vinícius to prosecutors. In 2023, Atletico fans hung an effigy of Vinícius from a bridge before a derby, leading to legal action and proposed four-year prison sentences for four fans.
