The Copa Sudamericana already has its groups defined. At the CONMEBOL headquarters, in Luque, Paraguay, the draw was held for the start of this instance of the contest on April 3.

Fortaleza had one of the famous “groups of death”, with Boca Juniors from Argentina as the top seed, the difficult stop of playing at altitude when they visited Nacional Potosí from Bolivia and Sportivo Trinidense, the Paraguayan team that lost against Colo Colo of Chile in phase 3 of the Copa Libertadores.

Bragantino didn’t have anything easy either, being in Group H led by Racing from Argentina, Coquimbo Unidos from Chile and Sportivo Luqueño, a team from Paraguay that proved to be strong in this continental competition.

For its part, Cruzeiro heads Group B which, a priori, is accessible. Shares the key with Unión La Calera of Chile, Universidad Católica of Ecuador and Alianza FC of Colombia.

Inter Porto Alegre will have to fight it. Delfín from Ecuador and Belgrano from Argentina could be strong rivals, while Real Tomapayo from Bolivia is a mystery.

Meanwhile, Athletico Paranaense will, in principle, have Danubio from Uruguay as the great rival to advance. Sportivo Ameliano from Paraguay and Rayo Zuliano from Venezuela will try to fight.

Corinthians was seeded in Group F, another fairly even match. Argentinos Juniors from Argentina and Nacional from Paraguay have a recent history of having gone far in the Copa Libertadores, while Racing from Uruguay will seek to surprise.

Finally, Cuiabá was placed in Group G led by Lanús from Argentina, a team that knows what it is like to play in this competition. Metropolitanos from Venezuela and Deportivo Garcilaso from Peru were the others chosen by the draw.

Only the first in each group will automatically advance to the next instance. There is a round of 16 playoff between those who finish second in each group of the Sudamericana and those who finish in third place in each group of the Copa Libertadores.
