After Flamengo’s 3-0 win over Madureira, which secured the Guanabara Cup, Coach Tite used the post-match press conference not just to celebrate but to issue an apology for his recent comments about Daniel Alves, who was convicted of rape in Spain. “I’m sorry for the answer I gave in the case of Daniel Alves. Forgiveness,” Tite said, recognizing his previous comparison as “inappropriate, meaningless and undue.”

This act of contrition followed Tite’s earlier reluctance to judge Alves after a victory against Fluminense, where he admitted, “I could not make a judgment without having all the facts and true information.”

Recall that when questioned about the Alves’ case, Tite compared it to Neymar’s situation in 2019, where he faced similar accusations but was soon cleared after recordings showed he was framed.

In Spain, former soccer star Daniel Alves was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in a nightclub bathroom, the Barcelona Court announced. Alves is required to serve this sentence in Spain, though there’s a possibility for him to serve in Brazil through the Transfer of Convicted Persons agreement, pending his defense’s appeal.

Tite, reflecting on his upbringing by Mr. Agenor and Ms. Ivone, reiterated his belief in “an education with guidance, with punishment,” as he navigates through this complex situation.
