Arsenal Agree Deal for Flamengo Defender
Arsenal have agreed the loan signing of Flamengo defender Pablo Mari for the rest of the season. The Spaniard joined the Rio club last July.
In 22 appearances he won the Brasileirão and the Copa Libertadores with Flamengo, he will join on loan until May with the Gunners maintaining an option to buy.
Fla quickly moved for Atlético Paranaense defender Léo Pereira on Wednesday to replace Mari, whom they signed from Manchester City in July.
The Gunners are in need of defensive reinforcements with Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers injured and with Rob Holding still coming back to full fitness.
Mari had three different loan spells during his time with City, at Girona in Spain, NAC Breda in Netherlands and Deportivo La Coruna in Spain.
He joined Flamengo for just over £1m last July on a permanent deal. Arsenal have an option to make the deal permanent in the summer should they wish.
It has been a busy week for Fla, who finally sealed the permanent transfer of Gabigol from Inter Milan and announced a new contract for attacker Bruno Henrique.
