Brazilian midfielder Paulinho admits that he never thought he would play for a club like Barcelona at the age of 29. The player joined the La Liga giants from Guangzhou Evergrande for around €40m earlier this month.
Paulinho moved to China after an unhappy spell with Premier League Tottenham Hotspur. The player admitted that he did not think he would get the call from a club like Barcelona, given the fact that he is close to 30.
“I’m so happy, I never imagined that I could wear the shirt of Barcelona at the age of 29 and be part of one of the best clubs in the world,” he told the Barcelona website. “I didn’t think I could realise the dream of wearing this shirt at 29.
“As years pass in your career, even with a lot of fight and dedication to football, it is easy to think that you will never be able to arrive at that level. I will really enjoy this opportunity.
“I am in a very confident moment, I have good momentum and am back in the Brazilian national team. This opportunity with Barca has arrived at the most happy time of my career,” he concluded.
