New Manchester City full-back Danilo admits that it was difficult to leave Real Madrid, but that he came to England for the chance to play more regularly. Danilo became back up at the La Liga giants during his two year spell there.

The full-back says his relationship with Zinedine Zidane was particularly strong, “It was very difficult to leave Real Madrid. I am very grateful to have won two Champions League. Even in difficult times they made me grow as a player and a person.

“Zidane was like a father to me and I will always be a fan. I was very happy with Real Madrid, my team-mates and the coach … but I needed to play more and we’ll see if the change helps me.”

The Brazilian refused to comment on speculation over compatriot Neymar’s potential move to Paris Saint Germain, saying, “I cannot say anything because I know the same amount as you. I just want Neymar to be happy and to choose well.”
