Manchester City are set to complete the surprise signing of right-back Danilo from Real Madrid for the sum of £26.5m. The player was thought to be close to signing for London club Chelsea last week.
However, it appears City boss Pep Guardiola has moved for the Brazilian just days after spending £53m on right-back Kyle Walker from Spurs. City have moved Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna on this summer, but the capture of Danilo would take their summer spending on right-backs to close to £80m.
The ex-Porto player can also operate in holding midfield and his versatility is an additional attraction for Guardiola. "[While] the deal is not done, out of respect for other clubs I cannot say anything," Guardiola said of the transfer.
Danilo would be City’s second Brazilian signing of the summer, having already splashed £37m on Benfica goalkeeper Ederson. Danilo has fallen out of favour at Madrid and will look to fight for a place in Brazil’s 2018 World Cup squad.
