Marquinhos was one of the biggest revelations from Corinthians" youth system, but the defender couldn"t display his quality for the Brazilian club.
Marquinhos, who"s currently with the Brazilian national team in the United States for the Copa América Centenário, left Corinthians at the age of 18, to join AS Roma on loan. The player said that, despite being very young, he opted to leave because of the project presented by the Italians. He said: “I was a very young boy who had just won the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior. The moment was delicate in the career of a player and everyone had a lot of calmness with me during this transition. It all happened when a proposal from Roma arrived. It was excellent, they had a coach [Zdeněk Zeman] who likes young players, and they"ve been wanting to take me for a long time."
Following his good performances in Italy, Roma purchased Marquinhos permanently for €3 million. He believes that his decision was right, and that he had to think a lot before making his mind up. Marquinhos added: “I talked with my family, with Corinthians…everything weighed. The project, the proposal, the will of coach to take me there. For a football player, the important thing is to feel the confidence of the club and the coach, who is interested. Then analyze everything, how the project was presented, and how important you are to this project."
