The president of Santos, Modesto Roma Júnior, has scheduled a trip to Peru next week to try to approach the striker Marlos Moreno of Colombian side Atlético Nacional.
Atlético Nacional faces Sporting Cristal on Tuesday at the Estádio Alberto Gallardo in Lima, for the fifth round of the Copa Libertadores group stage. This will be the second meeting of Modesto with Atlético Nacional president Juan Carlos de la Cuesta; the first was during a reunion of South American clubs in São Paulo last week. According to Globo Esporte, Santos are willing to pay around €2.7 million for Marlos Moreno, but have fears about interest from Europe in the 19-year-old. A representative of the Vila Belmiro club was in Colombia recently and heard that Porto and Liverpool are also interested in him. While Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport puts the Colombian in the sights of Barcelona. To facilitate the negotiations, Santos are considering buying only a part of the economic rights of Moreno, which would allow the Colombian team to keep a share and profit again in future negotiations. In addition, Santos tries to convince Nacional that the player can be worth even more after playing in Brazil.
Moreno said: “I heard the interest and it would be lovely to play in a club like Santos. It would be an honor, but I apologize for not being able to speak more. Anything I say can disrupt the negotiations and I know there are some clubs interested. My priority is to have a good Libertadores, then take a leap in my career.”
