Pelé believes that a medical failure during his hip replacement surgery in 2012 is why the procedure was done again in December last year.
The revelation was made by Pelé in an interview with the site Folha de S. Paulo, where he says that he feels good now, four months after the last operation. The latest surgery was performed in New York, while the one in 2012 was held in São Paulo. Pelé said: “According to the doctors who examined me, there was an error in the technique of Brazilian doctors. I had a problem in the resistance and the pain wouldn’t just go away. I did normal physiotherapy, two or three months, but no use. Doctors who guided me to do surgery in Brazil found it’s better to take me to the United States, to see what to do.”
Pelé also discussed the situation of Brazilian national team coach Dunga, and praised Corinthians’ Tite who’s regarded as a favorite to take charge if Dunga is fired. Pelé added: “I like both. I think they have different features, but I like both. At this point, I would maintain Dunga. They have personality, have differences in the game plan, but I like both. The two could be in the Seleção.”
