São Paulo playmaker Paulo Henrique Ganso did not accept the proposal made by the club’s board to renew his contract, which ends in September 2017.
The confirmation was made by club director Luiz Antônio Cunha in an interview with Rádio Globo this Wednesday. The proposal made, according to the information from Globo Esporte, was around €100,000 per-month. Luiz Antônio Cunha said: “We are in negotiations. There is no final proposal from São Paulo and not a final negative response from Ganso, yet. We are interested in the player’s contract renewal and we will work hard to make it happen.”
Ganso didn’t ask for a salary increase, but it was São Paulo who approached with a renewal offer. Ganso currently earns €75,000 per-month, but the new offer did not please the player as his wages has never been adjusted since his arrival from Santos in 2012. In addition, some players in the squad that came after the number 10 have wages higher than Ganso, for example, Jonathan Calleri, Wesley and Alan Kardec. Ganso is free to sign a pre-contract with any team from March next year, but São Paulo wants to avoid this, and hence plans to pay above the club’s salary cap.
