An elbow by full-back William on the face of Grêmio attacker Miller Bolaños during the derby against Internacional resulted in two fractures in the Ecuadorian’s jaw.
On Monday, Grêmio’s marquee signing of 2016 underwent a CT scan which revealed the severity of the blow. A surgery on the face of the Ecuadorian is scheduled for Wednesday, and he is expected to be back in training within 30 days. As mentioned in Globo Esporte, the player will also have to follow a liquid only diet for three weeks.
Bolaños stayed on the pitch throughout the first half, despite suffering the injury just three minutes into the game at Grêmio Arena on Sunday but was taken straight to Mãe de Deus Hospital during the interval. He should only return to training at the beginning of April, so there’s a possibility of missing the Libertadores games against LDU in Quito, and Toluca, at home.
