The details of the sale of former Corinthians forward Malcom to French side Bordeaux are contradictory to what was stated by some of the parties involved.
Agent Fernando Garcia and Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud talked differently about the terms of the deal that took the youngster to France in the January transfer window. It is true that the transfer fee involved was €5 million but the difference is in the percentage of economic rights that has been sold. Fernando Garcia, who brokered the transaction last month, revealed that the deal with Bordeaux was for 50% of Malcom’s economic rights. He said: “I had 40% of the rights, Corinthians 30% and don’t know who has the other 30% rights. All sold half of what they had and will receive for the other half in a future sale.”
The president of Bordeaux declared that the club paid to fully acquire the economic rights of Malcom, and not just half. He said: “We did everything perfectly, legally. If there was a third-party, it should be registered and stated at FIFA. Bordeaux bought 100% of the rights. Everything is transparent and legal, as always in the club.”
Corinthians’s legal department told UOL Esporte that Bordeaux demanded to add confidentiality clauses in Malcom’s transfer agreement. According to the report, the sale was indeed for 100% of the rights, with Bordeaux and Corinthians agreeing a future clause with regard to Malcom. In the event of a future sale that exceeds €3m, the Brazilian team will be entitled to a percentage, which wasn’t disclosed. This is how they aim to make more profit with the player whose transfer didn’t make much of an impact in the club’s coffers.
