Burger chain McDonalds have removed advertising posters featuring the image of Neymar in the city of Mecca, according to the Mecca newspaper. The restaurant chain has a poster campaign in the region featuring Neymar, but have been forced to remove images in the city of Mecca due to religious sensitivities.

An official of the Municipality of Mecca, Ozman Mali, said in a statement that foreign companies will be asked to consider the “Muslim feelings” when installing billboards with photos of famous personalities.

Amongst the concerns raised were Neymar’s visible tattoos and the fact that he is a Christian, along with comments about his behaviour on the field. McDonalds are said to have acted on these concerns by removing all posters featuring the Barcelona star in the city.
