La Liga side Granada made an offer for 18-year-old São Paulo central defender Lyanco, but the Brazilian club’s board rejected the proposal.
Lyanco was promoted to the professional team of São Paulo by Colombian coach Juan Carlos Osório and made his debut earlier this year. The offer was presented by the representative of the player, Frederico Moraes, to the executive director of São Paulo, Gustavo Vieira de Oliveira. Neither of them considered the possibility of releasing the youngster, with the club valuing the player highly. Moraes told Globo Esporte: “Gustavo rejected the offer and said he has bet a lot on Lyanco’s performances and that he still has a lot to grow in São Paulo. It would be premature release him now. As a representative of the player, there’s an obligation to submit an offer when I receive and I did so. I understand the reasons of São Paulo.”
São Paulo signed Lyanco in January after beating off competition from other clubs like Fluminense, Palmeiras, Cruzeiro and also AC Milan. Quickly, the defender began training with the professionals and caught the eye of then coach Juan Carlos Osório who handed him his debut in a 2-1 defeat to Atletico-PR at Arena da Baixada. So far, he’s played in 10 matches for the club, and has a contract until January 2019.
