Brazil’s Olympic national team had a player sent off, but still managed to hold on and win against the United States at Ilha do Retiro in Recife.
Brazil enjoyed a good first 45 minutes, and led at half time through Santos forward Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa. The 19-year-old rounded the USA goalkeeper and scored after being released by Marseille midfielder Lucas Silva. In the second half, Brazil doubled their lead through Luan. Once again, it was Lucas Silva with the assist for the youngster from Grêmio who found the net with a brilliant curled effort. However, Brazilian captain Dória was shown a second yellow card for a foul inside the box and was sent off. Coach Rogério Micale then replaced Palmeiras attacker Gabriel Jesus with Fluminense central defender Marlon to organize his team. Kiesewetter made no mistake from the penalty spot as he reduced the deficit, but Brazil held on to win the game.
The Seleção will face USA again on November 15, Sunday, at the Estádio do Mangueirão, in Belém.
