Pelé, sports ambassador for Banco Santander, met with the residents of the Parcels de Mapuhue slum, where TECHO-Chile has been working for six years.

There, the former Brazil international could talk with the community and view the situation in which they live – just like another 32,000 Chilean families that live in similar circumstances. Pelé said: “There are still many families living in poverty in Latin America. It is a tragic reality and I have worked throughout my life so that this situation is known. This is the reason why the collaboration between TECHO and Banco Santander is very important to me. Together we can work to raise money and social awareness, bringing joy to the communities most in need. My visit to Santiago today is to show my long-term commitment to helping improve the lives of people in Latin America and around the world.”

During the press conference, Pelé kicked off the “Solidarity Goals” campaign that Banco Santander will hold during Copa América 2015. For each goal scored in the tournament, the financial institution will donate US$3,200 to TECHO-Chile.
