The Botafogo goalkeeper repaid Dunga who gave him a starting role by keeping clean sheets in friendly victories over Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina and Japan.

Jefferson talked about the upcoming Copa América in Chile and also about his penalty save to deny Lionel Messi in the Superclásico de las Américas. He told Brasil Global Tour: “Brazil will always play to win. Of course, given it was played in Brazil, the World Cup brought a responsibility of having to be champion. We ended up getting very anxious, very anxious to start the games, to win, and in the end the result was not good.”

“The penalty save was a special moment? Of course, at that moment, I was very happy, but we cannot celebrate like a fan because we know a lot can still happen in a game. However, for sure I was very happy. This will be etched in my memory, in my family’s, into my career, everything. Even today, people on the street say to me: “you saved Messi’s penalty!” It is remarkable.”
