Real Salt Lake are closing in on a deal for Fort Lauderdale Strikers midfielder Pecka, according to reports.

Sports Illustrated contributor Liviu Bird, as cited by rslsoapbox, has suggested via Twitter that the Major League franchise have already agreed terms for Pecka, who he describes as a “a deep-lying playmaker type and Flamengo academy product.”

The 25 year-old – full name Wellington de Jorge Estanislau Paeckart – joined Fort Lauderdale Strikers in August 2011 from Flamengo.

Since then, he has scored once in 53 appearances for the club and was loaned to Campeonato Brasileiro Série C outfit Madureira between January and April of this year.

Pecka’s mooted move to Real Salt Lake is yet to be confirmed by the club, but his arrival would make sense, given the loss of midfielders Ned Grabavoy and Sebastián Velásquez to incoming franchise New York City.

Should Pecka make the switch to RSL, then he will be only the third Brazilian to play for the club, following on from forward’s Pablo Campos and Paulo Jr.
