Brazilian defender Leandro Castán has undergone brain surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.

The 28 year old was taken into hospital after suffering dizziness and spent three hours in the operating theatre. A malformation on his brain has been successfully removed and the Roma player is now breathing unaided.

The problem first arose in September and has been a constant source of worry for everyone in the football world. It now seems as if Castán is well on his way to recovery but he will remain in intensive care for the next 24 hours.
