Criciúma v Corinthians, due to kick-off at 4PM Brazilian time in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, sees the league’s worst attack go up against the best defence.

Criciúma have gone eight games without a win whilst their opponents are looking to hang on to their place in the G-4. Following Grêmio’s 1-0 win over an in form Flamengo at the Maracanã last night, Corinthians’ advantage has been cut to just a single point.

The home side have managed to collect just 17 points from their 18 games so far. In addition, their offensive prowess is by far the weakest, having found the back of the net on just nine occasions.

That is despite scoring three of those goals in a single match. In the first match after the World Cup hiatus, Criciúma defeated title chasing Fluminense 3-2 at their Heriberto Hulse home.

Level on points with Palmeiras, a victory for the Santa Catarina outfit, coupled with a draw or defeat for Palmeiras, would see them climb free of the drop zone. Palmeiras travel to Atlético-PR, who were eliminated from the Copa do Brasil in midweek by Série B side América-RN, who had defeated Fluminense on away goals in the previous round.

It is the final round of the first half of the Brasileirão campaign, with league leaders Cruzeiro eight points ahead of the chasing pack.
