Palmeiras face the prospect of fitting in an extra fixture in the middle of their league campaign this week when they entertain Italian side Fiorentina in a friendly tournament in Sao Paulo.

The Copa EuroAmericana is taking place until August 2 and pits European teams against those from American confederations- CONMEBOL AND CONCACAF- in a system whereby teams earn a point for their respective continents for a win.

Palmeiras are only involved once but it is this Thursday at the Pacaembu against Vincenzo Montella’s side, who have already beaten Argentine outfit Estudiantes de La Plata in the competition.

Although it is a friendly championship, Ricardo Gareca’s men will need to win for the Americas to have a chance of landing the bragging rights but must do so in the midst of a league fixture list that has just seen them lose to rivals Corinthians and host Bahia this coming Sunday.
