Palmeiras were beaten 4-2 by Sao Paulo on Sunday, meaning they lost their 100 per cent record in 2006 and slip down the Paulistão table. Sao Paulo, played their new signings Alex Dias and Andre Dias, who started well.

Elsewhere Corinthians beat Bragantino 4-1, A brace by Nilmar and one goal each for Carlos Tevez and Rafael Moura moved the the national champions into second place above Palmeiras on goal difference. However Palmeiras has a game in hand on both Noroeste and Corinthians.

Noroeste went top, on 16 points, by virtue of a gutsy performance against Itauno. The club from Bauru went two down with 68 minutes played, but fought back with goals by Leandrinho and a last-minute strike by Bomfim.

Vanderlei Luxemburgo suffered another loss with Santos as they went down to Portuguesa. Leo Mineiro and Julio Cesar fired Portugesa Santista ahead and Luiz Alberto scored the consolation goal. The 2-1 defeat leaves Santos on 12 points.
