Former Brazil and Santos idol Zito has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke on Wednesday night.

Zito, 81-years-old, played for Brazil in their 1958 and 1962 World Cup triumphs and even scored in the latter final against Czechoslovakia.

He spent the majority of his playing career with Santos, where he is viewed as a legend and has previously worked for the youth team at the club.

The 81-year-old is alleged to have found current Peixe star Gabriel Barbosa, more commonly known as Gabigol, and is said to have played a part in nurturing Neymar and Robinho.

While during his playing days he helped Santos become world champions on two separate occasions and helped deliver various domestic titles.

Zito is currently in Santa Casa de Misericordia de Santos according to Lancenet and a further update on his condition will be released at some point today.

Brazil and Santos fans will wait anxiously, hoping to hear good news regarding their former favourite.
