Brazil have dropped four places to number seven in the post-World Cup national rankings after reaching the last four of the tournament but falling desperately short against eventual winners Germany.

The Germans top the FIFA World Rankings for the first time in over 20 years following the winning of their fourth global crown last Sunday against Argentina at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.

Hosts Brazil, who were third going into the competition, are now ranked as the fourth best South American country, behind the Argentines (2), Colombia (4) and Uruguay (6).

The other countries from the continent that qualified for the World Cup, Chile and Ecuador, sit in 12th and 21st place respectively.

Brazil’s next match is against Colombia, the team they eliminated at the quarter final stage of the recent competiton. The friendly match will take place in Florida and will be the successor to Luiz Felipe Scolari’s first game in charge of a nation in dire need of structural change.
