British newspaper the Daily Mail believe Chelsea and Brazil defender David Luiz is having a medical with Paris Saint-Germain staff today ahead of his sensational £50 million transfer.

Reports broke earlier today that the 27-year-old was close to a switch to PSG after his current club agreed a deal with the French champions and that transfer appears to be even closer.

The Mail state that representatives from the Paris club have flown to Brazil to complete the Chelsea defender’s medical at Brazil’s training base.

Seleção head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has previously stated that he would like all transfer regarding his players arranged before the World Cup starts and that appears to be the case with this deal regarding the Brazil defender.

If the transfer is completed before the World Cup it would rank among the biggest transfers in world football and would be the highest amount ever paid for a defender.

The previous highest also included PSG when they brought Seleção captain Thiago Silva to Parc des Princes for £35.3 million, whilst fellow Brazilian Marquinhos also cost the Paris club £30.1 million.

Luiz would cost even more however, and despite being constantly linked with a switch to Barcelona and more recently Bayern Munich it appears the popular Chelsea defender will be heading for Paris once the World Cup ends.
