Roma defender Maicon believes Germany will be the national team to beat this summer during the 2014 World Cup.

The 33-year-old revealed that Luiz Felipe Scolari informed him during his time at Manchester City that he was in his thoughts.

Maicon spoke to Sky Sport Italia this week about the World Cup and his Roma future.

He said: “I spoke to Scolari when I was still at Manchester City and it was a very positive chat.

“He wanted to give me the opportunity to come back into the Seleção and I am happy he gave me that chance. The German national team are the ones to beat, as they’ve been playing together for a while now.”

Roma announced plans for their new purpose-built arena recently, which they plan to open in the 2016/17 season.

Maicon would love to be at Giallorossi then and believes they can win the Scudetto soon.

“Is my future at Roma? Yes, I even want to play in the new stadium,” the Brazilian added.

“There are many important players in the side. I hope that some more can arrive so we can open up a new era for the club.”

“A team that wants to win the championship cannot make a mistake. We made mistakes, Juve didn’t. I think they deserved the Scudetto.”
