After scoring for the first time in two years yesterday night, Atlético Paranaense forward Adriano is switching his focus on helping the club in the Brasileirão.

The 32-year-old was once rated among the best strikers in the world and many viewed his opportunity with Atlético PR as the former Internazionale attackers last chance to continue as a professional footballer.

Adriano joined the club earlier this year and his fitness sessions seem to be working as he has slimmed down and started his first match in two years yesterday against The Strongest.

And as stated he was able to score in the Copa Libertadores group match but unfortunately that goal couldn’t prevent his side losing 2-1 and they therefore exited the completion.

Gazeta do Povo quoted Adriano after his goalscoring exploits and he explained the process behind coming back and where Atlético PR’s focus has now switched to.

“Scoring the goal was an indescribable feeling,” Goal.com reported Adriano as saying.

“I began playing now because a schedule was agreed on with the coach and club president. I had to be in my physical prime again and lose weight.

“I followed everything that was done, so I’m glad I started.

“Obviously we leave frustrated because no-one likes to lose. Now we have to stay relaxed, stay humble and focus on the Brasileirão.”

The Brasileirão kicks off on April 19th with Atlético PR’s in action on the 20th against Grêmio.
