Vasco will face Flamengo in the final of the Rio de Janeiro state championship after beating Fluminense 2-1 across two legs to advance in the competition.

Sunday’s clash at the Maracanã was decided by Reginaldo’s last-minute strike, with Fluminense needing only a draw to progress on the away goals rule.

After the game, Vasco midfielder Douglas was quick to stress that better will be required if the São Januário outfit are to overcome rivals Flamengo in the two-legged final starting next weekend.

“We will have a completely different type of game. We will not have as much space. The marking will be much tighter.”

“Nevertheless, we will do our best to try and win this title for Vasco,” said the 32-year-old.
