Júlio Baptista scored the second goal for Cruzeiro in their Copa Libertadores match against Defensor Sporting on Thursday night but unfortunately it only contributed to a disappointing 2-2 draw.

The former Arsenal midfielder spoke to the media after the game and Lancenet quoted the 32-year-old.

Baptista was optimistic despite Cruzeiro now facing an tough task of qualifying for the knock-out phase.

He said: “The scores 2-0 and then 2-1 were misleading. You think you’re in control of the game but you end up taking a draw but we have hope. I think we can do it and turn this around.

“We played well, we lacked a bit at the end. We let them play and they did well and made the goal.

“We gave it our all but unfortunately the Libertadores competition is decided by these details.”

Baptista will hope to remain fit and now play a part in helping Cruzeiro beat the odds and finish in the two top of Group 5. With two games left they have it all to play for.
