Júlio César made his debut for Toronto FC yesterday and although he may have been overshadowed by England striker Jermain Defoe who scoring twice on his debut, the performance of the Brazilian has received praise.

Highly respected Brazil journalist Paulo Freitas wrote for Soccerly that the Queens Park Rangers loanee impressed and that his performance received acclaim from the Brazilian press.

Terra and Lancenet both mentioned that he had a good game whilst Globo Esporte stated he wasn’t to blame for the goal he conceded.

Statistics website Whoscored.com gave Júlio César a respectable 6.6 rating and state that he made six claims from crossers to highlight his performance.

Júlio César was warned by Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari that if he didn’t start playing regular football he could lose his first choice role in the Seleção side.

The Brazilian will have plenty of opportunities to showcase his talents in Canada and to teams in the MLS with several games for him to play between now and when he joins up with the Brazil squad for the World Cup.

After a difficult number of months in London, the goalkeeper has started his new journey well.
