Leandro Damião made his Santos debut on Thursday and has been paying tribute to his father in addition to revealing he hopes to mark his second game with a goal.

Damião’s new team managed to defeat Linense 2-1 but only after he was subbed off, however he is hopeful of scoring goals in the Peixe shirt soon.

Lance reported the comments from the 24-year-old, who was at the Santos club shop signing autographs for children and fans.

Damião said: “Hopefully this is the start of charm at Santos, because my Dad was always at my games in Beira-Rio, now he is going to Belmiro for my debut, and will hopefully see goals.

“I hope the mustache deems me luck because it is important to know that everything is a tribute to my father.

“My Dad is known as Mustache and when I score, I made this celebration for him.”

It was only last week that the Brazil national team striker was registered and he is looking forward to making his home debut on Tuesday against Comercial.

“The team is very good. I am just missing sharpness and hopefully next time I mark it with a goal.”

Damião will aim to get off the mark for his new team soon and start showing Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari why he should be included in his World Cup squad.
