After weeks of speculation and talks, Premier League side Sunderland have officially announced the signing of Internacional attacker Ignacio Scocco.

The official website published the news early this afternoon with various pictures of the Argentine in a Black Cats jersey.

The 28-year-old joins on a two-and-a-half-year deal and for an undisclosed fee, which is reported by Sky Sports to be £3 million.

The attacker tweeted a picture last night which showed him signing his contract and he watched his new side defeat Stoke City 1-0 in the Premier League last night to move out of the relegation zone.

Scocco joins a team in a battle to stay in the English top tier but should be given an opportunity to play at Wembley in the Capital One Cup final against Manchester City.

Sunderland manager Guy Poyet told the Sunderland Echo that the Argentine will be mainly used as a forward.

He added: “I’ve had a good chat with him (Scocco) and he’s comfortable playing as part of a front three.

“We will use him further up the pitch because he is not really a defensive player, so I see him as a striker more than anything else.

“That’s a good thing for us though because we need to score goals and Scocco could provide us with that little extra both in scoring goals and creating them.”

Scocco will certainly hope his time in England is more successful than his spell in Brazil.
