Contracted to São Paulo, the left-back is surplus to requirements at the Morumbi club. The player wants to play in Brazil and is on the radar of Vasco.

On Friday night Benfica agreed to cut short the Brazilian’s loan. He was due to remain at the Portuguese outfit until mid-2014 but is now free to find another club in accordance with his parent club São Paulo.

"I still don’t know where I will be playing this year. I’ve received lots of offers from both in Brazil and abroad and my intention is to develop my career. I said to them [Benfica] that I wanted to return to Brazil to be close to my family and also because it is the ideal place to show what I have got," said the player.

Cortez was frozen out at São Paulo following the team’s elimination from the Libertadores before was then loaned out to Benfica.
