Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has praised team-mate Willian’s assist for his goal against Derby County on Sunday.

Mikel headed in the Brazilian’s left-wing free-kick to put Chelsea on course to a 2-0 victory in the Third Round of the FA Cup.

Mikel admits Chelsea had to battle for the win and insists the hard work for his goal was done by Willian.

“We played well in the first half but we didn’t get the goal to make the game a bit more easy for us,” he said, as reported by chelseafc.com.

“We had chances in the first half and if we put them away then it would have been over but we didn’t and we just had to keep going, keep believing and keep playing well and that is what we did in the second half.

“We put Derby under a lot of pressure after half-time and it was important to get the goal. It was a fantastic ball from Willian and I just needed to get my head to it. We then got the second and we could have scored more after that, so we are very pleased with the game.”
