Botafogo are in talks with Catania to sign forward Maxi López, according to Lancenet.

The 29 year-old is expected to leave the Sicilian outfit in January, as owner Antonino Pulvirenti looks to rebuild a side that currently sits bottom of Serie A.

López returned to Catania after spending last season on loan at Sampdoria, but has largely been on the fringes under head coach’s Rolando Maran and Gigi de Canio.

The former Argentina Under-20 international has already experienced playing in Brazil, having spent the 2009 season on loan at Grêmio from FC Moscow, and has reportedly spoken to Clarence Seedorf – a former team-mate at Milan – about Botafogo. He is, however, thought to be holding out for a move to England or Spain.
