West Ham United could make a surprise January bid for veteran Internacional forward Diego Forlán.

The Daily Mirror insists manager Sam Allardyce will sign at least one striker in the transfer window.

With Andy Carroll injured, he has just Carlton Cole and Mladen Petrić at his disposal.

Whether Forlán, who has 107 caps for Uruguay, would want such a drastic move six months before the World Cup is unclear.

The 34 year-old has had a mixed season at Internacional. He’s made just eleven starts, scoring five goals.

Despite being 11th, they are not safe from relegation yet. The gap between them and 17th placed Coritiba is just four points, with three rounds to play.

U-20 coach Clemer is temporarily in charge, after head coach Dunga was sacked in October, though recent results have remained poor.

Forlán had three unsuccessful seasons in the Premier League with Manchester United. He left for Villarreal in August 2004, before joining Atlético Madrid in June 2007 for €21 million.

Forlán played his best football in La Liga, winning the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup with Atlético, before moving to Internazionale.

After an unsuccessful stint in Italy, he moved to Internacional in July 2012.
