Tahiti goalkeeper Mikael Roche says he is delighted to be representing his country at the upcoming Confederations Cup in Brazil.

The island from the French Polynesia will be competing with the likes of Spain, Brazil and Italy at the competition, despite the national team being composed entirely of amateur footballers.

But Roche says that will not put them off and claims they will enjoy the occasion.

“As soon as the final whistle blew [in the OFC Nations Cup final] the first thing I did was run to the other boys shouting ‘we are going to Brazil, we are going to Brazil’," Roche said.

“You always want to go higher in football, and now we are going to Brazil, the church of football, it is incredible."

“Every game is an important step, every second we have on the pitch is a second we have to build our team for Brazil. And all the guys are conscious of that."
