Botafogo left-back Marcio Azevedo is to join Ukranian side Metalist Kharkiv on a four-year deal, according to reports in Brazil.

Marcio Azevedo, 26, had been first choice at Botafogo since the departure of Bruno Cortez to São Paulo at the beginning of the 2012 season and was previously linked with a move to Copa Libertadores hopefuls Palmeiras.

He has, though, agreed a move to Metalist where he will join five of his countrymen in Cleiton Xavier, Willian, Fininho, Jajá and Marlos. The club recently saw their Europa League campaign ended by Premier League side Newcastle, but are in a good position to qualify once more next season.

The exact values of the deal are not yet known, with the player’s agent Sandro Becker having conducted the negotiations.

Botafogo will now be without Azevedo for the semi-finals of the Taça Guanabara on Sunday, with recently signed Julio Cesar set to deputise.
