Grêmio have confirmed they are still interested in Roma midfielder Marquinho but have admitted that agreeing a fee with the Giallorossi is difficult.

Representatives from the Brazilian club were thought to be in Italy last month with the task of taking the 26-year-old back to South America with them.

Grêmio’s president Fabio Koff has revealed that they have spoken to the player and are hoping to sign him before the end of their transfer window.

He told Radio Bandeirantes: “We will not give up on getting Marquinho.

“There have been some problems with Roma’s valuation.

“But we have made a proposal to the player, and we hope that he agrees to come, because the market in Brazil is still open.”

The former Fluminese playmaker has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Stadio Olimpico outfit’s starting eleven since permanently joining them in the summer after impressing on loan.
