Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his knee to repair damaged cruciate ligaments.

Sandro, 23, had been a virtual ever present this season for André Villas-Boas’ Tottenham side, but hurt his knee after falling awkwardly against Queens Park Rangers last weekend.

The former Internacional midfielder used Twitter to post photos and tell fans: “My surgery went well. Many thanks to everyone for their support… I’ll be fine… to fight again… Come on you Spurs.”

The 16-cap Brazil international is now likely to miss the Confederations Cup this summer, even if he has recovered in time for the event.

Affectionately dubbed “The Beast” by Spurs fans, Sandro will hope that his prolonged absence will not affect his chanced under new Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

Tottenham have yet to decide whether they will look to sign a replacement, with England international Scott Parker set to deputise against Manchester United this weekend.
