Santos could offer midfielder Henrique to Cruzeiro as part of a package to bring Argentine playmaker Walter Montillo to the club in 2013.
Henrique, 27, left Cruzeiro for Santos in 2011 after nearly three years in Belo Horizonte, but could be used to entice the Minas Gerais club into agreeing to part with their 60% of Montillo’s ownership.
Over the past few days, Santos have been in talks with Banco BMG and a separate group of investors over their ownership over the attacking midfielder, with the club confident of acquiring both parties’ 40% stakes in the player.
With Cruzeiro then asking for a fee of €6 million for their majority ownership, Santos hope to offer three-time Mineiro state champion Henrique as a makeweight in the deal—with Cruzeiro known to have been looking at midfield options in recent weeks.
Montillo is believed to have agreed possible terms with Santos over a move and is currently on holiday in the USA, as he awaits news over his future.
The 28-year-old Argentine joined A Raposa in 2010 and has gone on to be twice selected in Placar magazine’s Brasileirão Team of the Year in his three seasons at the club.
