Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva believes it will not be long until his side are once more able to challenge for major titles, after a tough couple of years at Anfield.

Lucas, 25, has just a League Cup title to show for his five years with the club so far and admits the situation is far from ideal, particularly for those who have come from far and wide to represent the club.

The Brazilian, though, believes that the situation will take a turn for the better before too long, as new manager Brendan Rodgers looks to build a new era on Merseyside.

“Of course, this is not a good thing. All players, especially those who are away from home—away from their family and country—want to have a career of success, with major titles,” he told Globo Esporte.

“However, I have great faith that Liverpool are just going through a poor run and will soon return to challenge for major titles. It’s this that makes me think of staying.

“I feel good, so I always look for the positive. It was the club that brought me to Europe and I have confidence that we will return to compete for big titles.”
