Grêmio are closing in on a loan move for Napoli’s Chilean forward Eduardo Vargas, and the move could be confirmed next week according to director Omar Selaimen.

Vargas, 23, made a name for himself as part of the successful Universidad de Chile side that won the Copa Sul-Americana in 2011 and earned a move to the Italian club earlier this year for around £11.5 million, but has failed to impress yet in Naples.

“Everything is on track, we have interest in Vargas and he in Grêmio,” Selaimen told Lancenet!

“We are working on it. Nothing is finalised, there is a path to be walked yet. But most things have already been covered, we have made the proposal. Let’s see, we want to close it next week.”

Italian website Tutto Mercato are speculating that Grêmio will pay around €1 million for the loan, after baulking at the €8 million wanted for a permanent deal. Vargas is just one of the big names coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo wants to bring to Porto Alegre to assist in Grêmio’s Copa Libertadores campaign.
