Brazil legend Roberto Carlos has lamented Palmeiras’ slide into Serie B and blamed the board for the club’s downfall.

The former Palmeiras fullback, who played for the club from 1993 to 1995, blamed poor organization and overconfidence for the club’s relegation from the Brasileirão.

Carlos told reporters: “Marcos Assunção was right when he said the team thought they would win easily and then they won the Brazil Cup. It was perfect.

“Palmeiras had a great time and thought it would roll over eyeryone but opponents wanted to win the championship more. When Palmeiras realised their position, it was too late.”

The former Real Madrid defender criticised what he saw as poor organization of affairs and suggested the board was at fault.

“It’s a disorganized club. I do not know what the problems are within the club, but it’s coming from the board.

“I am sad to see my friends go through a situation like this.”
