Neymar has been ruled out of Santos’ next game after receiving a third yellow card meriting an automatic one game ban.

The Santos star was booked for diving in the penalty area during Santos’ 2-0 win against Figueirense last night which saw them climb up the table to ninth place.

The referee ruled that Neymar had exaggerated the contact between himself and the opposing keeper, drawing sarcastic applause from Santos coach Muricy Ramalho.

Neymar had a rare off day but emerging youngster Felipe Anderson came to the fore finding the net in the second half to secure the win.

Ramalho told reporters that they were already looking forward to the next season: “The team lost its way a bit this year. We played well in the first six months but we then tapered off.

“We have been very poor in the league. We have to be more consistent throughout the year.”
