Piazon, 18, officially joined Chelsea from São Paulo last January and, following appearances on the club’s pre-season tour of North America, has been involved in the club’s League Cup run to date.
Lucas told Globo Esporte: “A year ago, I could not play but now I have competitive games. Coming over earlier, though, helped me a lot. Now, I’m in the same locker room as the first-team – always travelling and training. This is very important.
“I know that physically I’m still a little below the rest and have encountered some difficulties, but Chelsea says that will only change with time – it is natural. I trust in the planning of the club.”
Lucas also spoke of his first appearances in competitive matches the first-team, consisting of cup fixtures with Wolves and Manchester United – both of which ended with wins for the Blues.
“The first game was great, everyone was good and it helped me a lot,” he added. “After 20 minutes it was 3-0 and I think it went very well. I gave an assist and was praised.
“Against United it was more difficult. It was a very tough match and Rafael marked me. I was coming back from injury and wasn’t so well prepared, but it was good experience.”
