Manchester City 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur: Maicon makes home debut as City seal late win
Maicon made his home debut for Manchester City this afternoon during a narrow 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Inter defender came on for Matija Nastasić in the 57th-minute to make the second Premier League appearance of his career.
Maicon’s introduction delighted both sets of fans but in particular those in the away end, who remembered the torrid time the Brazilian was given by Gareth Bale in the Champions League two years ago.
However, this time Maicon had the upper-hand as his substitution and Roberto Mancini's subsequent switch to three at the back turned the game around for the home side.
The right-back was impressive in defence and almost created a goal with a fizzed a low cross shortly after Sergio Aguero cancelled out Steven Caulker's first-half header.
Edin Džeko scored three minutes from time to complete a defiant second-half comeback for City, who remain unbeaten and have moved back to within two points of Manchester United at the top of the table.
Sandro was in action for the visitors, after recovering from a calf injury, and almost scored a low curling effort in the 26th minute when his shot beat Joe Hart but went wide of the post.
However, the Brazilian was unable to prevent seventh-placed Spurs from losing their third league game in a row.
