A sports tribunal has ruled out the annulment of Palmeiras’ 2-1 defeat to Internacional despite claims that television replays were used to disallow a goal.

The Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) today said that there was insufficient evidence provided by Palmeiras’ legal team to annul the result.

Palmeiras’ equaliser when they were 2-1 down was ruled out after an official allegedly consulted TV replays to inform the referee that the goal should not stand.

The controversial goal came as Palmeiras striker Hernan Barcos used his hand to score the goal in the second half, which was subsequently disallowed after the referee spoke to his assistants for several minutes.

Both the referee and his assistants involved in the match denied the allegations when called upon to provide testimoney in the tribunal.

Palmeiras had hoped to have the result aned as the side are in danger of being relegated from the Brasileirão, the club are seven points from safety with four games left to play.
