Reports in the British Daily Mail newspaper suggest that Chelsea are set to make an offer for Brazil midfielder Paulinho in January.

Paulinho, 24, has been strongly linked with Inter Milan and CSKA Moscow, despite recently extending his current Corinthians contract, but now the British paper suggests that Chelsea are in on the chase.

The box-to-box midfielder is currently in Poland with the Brazilian national side, playing alongside Chelsea star Ramires at the base of the Seleção midfield.

Since helping Corinthians to the 2011 Brasileirão title, Paulinho’s stock has continued to rise, adding the 2012 Copa Libertadores crown and joining the full Brazil squad for recent fixtures.

The former Bragantino midfielder has been capped six times for his country, including opening the scoring in Tuesday afternoon’s fixture with Japan.

Chelsea currently have four Brazilians amongst their first-team squad in the shape of David Luiz, Ramires, Oscar and emerging youngster Lucas Piazon.
